UK retail company JD Sports acquires Manchester-based Oi Polloi

British sportswear retail company JD Sports has acquired independent menswear retailer Oi Polloi based in Manchester, England. The agreement includes the acquisition of the Northern Quarter store and the brand’s online assets. Nigel Lawson and Steve Sanderson, who founded Oi Polloi in 2002, will retire from the company after the merger.

Oi Polloi sells classic and contemporary menswear from brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren, CP Company, Stone Island, Patagonia, Engineered Garments, Battenwear, Beams Plus, Berghaus and Gramicci to name a few.

JD Sports executive chairman Peter Cowgill will be CEO of Oi Polloi, according to UK media.

JD Sports had recently acquired US companies Shoe Palace and DTLR as well as independent retailer Wellgosh based in Leicester. It also recently acquired a controlling 60 percent stake in Poland-based Marketing Investment Group (MIG).
