Suspected armed robbers break into clothing stores in Ilorin

Items worth more than N10 million were reportedly taken by suspected armed robbers on July 6, 2021 from a clothing and accessories store in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

Online forum discovered that the alleged thugs took away several items of clothing such as designer shirts, chinos and jeans, men’s and women’s shoes, men’s suits and other clothing accessories from the clothing store, popularly known as name of “fashionable”, located along Umar Audi Road, opposite the old hotel Broadway, GRA, Ilorin.

Lamenting the loss of our correspondent, store owner Mr. Woye Aladegbola said only his clothing store was broken into in a row of stores along the road.

He also said that the men and officers of the security agencies whose cases he had reported to the “A” and “F” divisional police stations had not yet given any development on the matter.

The young entrepreneur, who said such incidents could discourage investment, called on the state government and security agencies to improve security issues in the state.

Only the store was broken into, while the burglary case was reported to the Nigerian Police F Division Post and Nigeria State Security of the Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) Command, Ilorin.

He said he had been with the company for over 10 years, the company he ventured into after resigning from telecommunications company Globalcom.

The burglary incident happened on July 6, 2021, around 6:30 a.m., when my landlady, on her way to work, surprisingly noticed that my store had been opened. She said she walked over to see who might have opened it at that time of day and was surprised to see how everything had been dispersed and was actually broken into. She later alerted me that my store had been broken into. And I rushed.

“The value of the items taken is about 9.8 million naira and with other devices it was about 10 million naira plus a few fractions apart from other items, not on insurance which has also been washed away.

Mr Aladegbola, who said police had not made an arrest over the incident, expressed disappointment at the efforts of security agencies.

“When I reported to the A Division of the Nigerian Police, an officer followed me to the store and there was still nothing after that.

It’s so sad that what I worked on for the past 20 years after leaving college was taken away in a few hours a day, all of my savings. All I can say is up to me to support my family; it was all gone in the blink of an eye.

To encourage state business owners, I want to call on government and security agencies to ensure adequate safety and protection for the people. And imagine that my store is a main road opposite and only one street separates it from the residence of Senator Bukola Saraki, adjacent to the house of the former deputy governor of CBN and a minute’s drive from the official residence of the police commissioner.

These are places of eminent and important dignitaries where the store is located. It’s on a highway where there should be a security patrol. I don’t understand why almost every item in a store could be wrapped. They had to come by truck and during the whole period there was no patrol. This shows that there is a security issue in the state. And until now, the police had no idea of the case.

This could really discourage investment. As it is, I’m not sure if I could continue with the store as I wouldn’t want it to happen again. It is the government’s responsibility to provide security. I am an employer of labor. I had to lay off some of my staff. This should not be allowed to continue, otherwise the unemployment rate and crime will continue to rise, ”he said.

Talk with the Online forumPolice Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Okasanmi Ajayi said he had yet to receive the report from the divisional police stations.

The police spokesperson promised to examine the case with a view to conducting an investigation that would unravel the perpetrators of the crime.
