Jio and WhatsApp Report Deeper Support for Online Retail and Digital Payments
JioMart will launch a conversational e-commerce on WhatsApp that will allow users to order essentials like groceries and snacks both on demand and through subscriptions, said Isha Ambani and Akash Ambani, executives of Reliance. Jio, at Meta’s (formerly Facebook) Fuel for India 2021 event on Wednesday.
The functionality to order directly from JioMart has currently been tested for a section of WhatsApp users only as it is in trial mode. Users will be able to order on the go or even get a subscription to JioMart’s daily needs through WhatsApp.
“We currently have over half a million retailers on JioMart. We intend to develop native features with WhatsApp that will not only help users to shop seamlessly, but also merchants to increase their margins, assortment and get closer to a wider customer base ”, said said Akash Ambani, director and head of strategy at Reliance Jio. Platforms.
Reliance Jio executives also unveiled the prototype of a feature that will allow Jio users to top up their prepaid Jio services through the messaging platform’s UPI service.
Pilot for payments
WhatsApp also announced a 500 Village Adoption Pilot Program across Karnataka and Maharashtra to familiarize villagers with accessing digital payments through its payment service.
