Cavan businesses benefit from online retail program

Fine Gael Senator Joe O’Reilly praised Cavan’s business interest

The Cavan companies have so far received funding of € 222,605 from the online retail program via grants of between € 10,000 and € 25,000.

The online retail program was first launched in 2018 to help retailers grow their customer base and expand their offering to include an online platform. The Covid-19 Online Retail Scheme was put in place in response to the pandemic and the urgent need of retailers to increase their online capacity.

To date, the program has provided funding of over € 19 million to more than 500 companies across the country.

Local Fine Gael Senator Joe O’Reilly praised the interest of Cavan’s businesses, noting that the program has been particularly helpful to retailers over the past 18 months as it has allowed them to continue trading while their doors were closed.

“Companies that had never traded online before had to completely pivot their operations when the country went into lockdown last year and were able to do so with the help of program funding.

“I am delighted to say today that Cavan companies have received € 222,605 in funding through the program. For many of these retailers, the ability to do business online was the most important factor in keeping their businesses open and protecting local jobs.

“The three cycles of the online retail program to date are currently under review and Tánaiste Leo Varadkar recently signaled his intention to open another round of funding applications later this year. “

In addition to the online retail program, the online voucher program, administered by local business offices, offers vouchers of up to € 2,500 to help businesses develop their business capabilities by line.

“I encourage any Cavan business that has not yet requested the voucher to contact their local business office to learn more about the application process,” Senator O’Reilly concluded.
